'Perspectives'

By

Spadge Hopkins

Perspectives is a 2025 book with a foreword by Emma Freud featuring a series of 21 pieces art created or curated by Spadge to illustrate and evoke happy memories from the past. The art is accompanied by thoughtful descriptions,

often reflecting upon the nature of memory itself. Although these memories are clearly personal to Spadge they will resonate with the the reader in many instances. Each memory is from a specific year running from 1968 through to 2022. These are accompanied by QR codes to take the reader to music appropriate to the moment. These positive reminiscences are juxtaposed with lists of the less rosy aspects of those times which serve to remind the reader of the oft-forgotten challenges that have been faced and overcome since the 1960s.

The purpose of the exercise is to give perspective and more importantly hope when considering the current state of the world and also an excuse for the author to share his work in copper and mixed media but also to spend hours playing with clay in the studio of a generous fellow Suffolk artist - Di Capstick
